As we gear up for the New Year, Weingarten Realty is excited to announce our 2013 Wellness Program! We realize that most adults spend the majority of their waking hours at work than anywhere else, therefore making it a prime venue for promoting healthy habits. The workplace culture and environment are powerful influences on behavior and this can to be put to use as a means of assisting associates to adopt a healthier lifestyle. A nearly year-long program will begin this month and end in November. We will focus our attention on fitness, nutrition, financial planning and overall good health habits.
We have found that by implementing a wellness program, both associates and Weingarten benefit. For those who participate, most will lose weight, improve their physical fitness and relieve stress while learning to adapt to a healthier lifestyle. Weingarten will, in return, benefit from reduced health care costs, decreased rates of illness, and improve company relations and morale.
There will be two contests for the 2013 Wellness Program, one for individuals and one team oriented contest.
Back by popular demand, the team played, THE BIGGEST LOSER CONTEST will run for 90 days. Teams of five associates will compete to see who has the biggest percentage weight loss. Along the way, activities and competitions to help initiate healthy habits will be offered to earn points that will be converted into pounds lost for the teams. We are proud to announce participation from 105 Weingarten associates and hope to share great results at the end of the three month period.
Wellness Activities already commenced:
2013 Health Fair was held on January 17th from 11:00- 2:00. Ten vendors came to give valuable information on living a balanced and healthy lifestyle. My Fit Foods, Berkeley Eye Center and Liberty Mutual were some of the vendors who came to share their knowledge, service and/or products.
Jennifer Speer with Madison Benefits Group hold a group exercise class on January 21, focused on functional training utilizing a stability ball and/or resistance bands. Associates were prepared for a full body workout that they can do at home!
Upcoming Wellness Program activities include:
Yoga with Stefani Harris every Tuesday for the remainder of January & February
Lunch time session will focus on breathing and stretching. Target is to not work up a sweat, but stretch, breath, relax and return to work refreshed.
PILATES MAT CLASS with Eric Long every Thursday for the remainder of January & February
Pilates improves flexibility, agility and range of motion. Sessions will emphasize proper breathing, correct spine and hip placement, and focus on smooth, flowing movements. We will use our bodies as resistance to build strength, while developing control of our ‘core’ muscles to protect the spine.
