The US Government has formed a partnership with several major grocery store chains to distribute free Pfizer and Moderna COVID – 19 vaccines to the public. The two-dose vaccines will be primarily administered by appointment to those in Phases 1A and 1B ; health care workers, long-term care workers and residents, emergency medical personnel, seniors and those ages 18-64 with chronic illnesses. The first round of shots has already begun being administered by pharmacists in several of Weingarten Realty’s grocery store anchored shopping centers driving traffic to the centers.
Harris Teeter – Harris Teeter has begun the administration of the Pfizer vaccine to health care workers at 211 of their pharmacies. HEB – HEB began their rollout of the second phase, Phase 1B, of the Moderna vaccine January 22, 2021 to qualifying individuals. Eligible individuals for Phase 1A and 1B vaccinations can schedule a vaccine appointment at heb.com/vaccine or by calling (800) 811-8620.

Publix –Publix is offering the vaccine in three states; Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. The state of South Carolina is providing Publix Pharmacies with another 70,000 Moderna vaccines, while more than 250 Publix stores in Florida, and 108 Publix Pharmacies in Georgia are participating in the vaccination efforts. Walmart –Walmart hopes to administer 10-13 million doses of the vaccine per month depending on capacity, government allocations and manufactory supply. To prepare for the vaccine roll-out, Walmart has trained their pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and created a new vaccine appointment scheduling tool. Millions of consumers go to grocery stores each week. This gives the grocery store chains offering the COVID-19 vaccine a unique opportunity to reach their shoppers or new ones. Experts are projecting that grocery store pharmacies offering the vaccine; could notice an increase in foot traffic, volume, ; in-store sales, ; and brand loyalty; and visibility.
