Each year, as the holidays approach, Weingarten Realty associates unite together to raise money to build better communities through the local United Way organizations. United Way envisions a world where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, income stability and healthy lives. We feel a responsibility as a company, not only to build great shopping destinations, but to also give back to the communities that support our centers.
In the spirit of going green, a website was designed to host any and all information associates need to meet the goal of raising $150,000. You can visit the website here, www.wriunitedway.com. Pledge forms were available online for the first time, making the tracking and donating process streamlined. The campaign raised additional funds through a bake sale, jeans day and a raffle to win a signed Hakeem Olajuwon Rockets jersey. Property Management kicked-off the campaign by raising $14,000 through a golf and putt-putt tournament. Through the efforts of the associates, we exceeded our goal, and raised over $156,000.
This year’s campaign was based around a Family Feud theme. Associates played Family Feud in its original form, as a game show, until the best team emerged to compete against the executive team. No game show is complete without a host; Drew Alexander, CEO, animatedly fulfilled the job. Prior to the game show beginning, Barbara Boyett, Chief Executive Office of Avondale House, spoke about the not-for-profit agency that provides, primarily, educational services to children with autism. Avondale House is one of the many agencies United Way supports.
Weingarten Realty associates came together in fun and games to support the serious mission of building better communities through United Way.
